First Lockdown Relief - 2020 The first nationwide lockdown in 2020, triggered by the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, brought life to a standstill and left millions of migrant workers stranded without food, shelter, or financial means. With public transport shut down and jobs lost overnight, many labourers began walking hundreds of kilometres to return to their hometowns hungry, barefoot, and uncertain about their future. The humanitarian crisis that unfolded was unprecedented. In response to this critical situation, the United We Stand Foundation sprang into action to provide urgent relief. For 64 consecutive days, our volunteers worked tirelessly on the ground to distribute freshly prepared meals to hundreds of individuals every day. We reached out to over 600 - 700 migrant labourers, providing them not only with groceries, vegetables, and footwear, but also with a sense of dignity and care during an otherwise hopeless time. Our commitment extended beyond the migrants as well we also supported the frontline warriors, including police personnel, sanitation workers, and medical staff, who risked their lives daily to ensure public safety and health. By providing them with refreshments, protective gear, and essentials, we aimed to stand in solidarity with those holding the country together at its most vulnerable hour. This initiative was a true reflection of our belief that no one should be left behind, especially during a national emergency. At UWS, we are proud of our team’s dedication, compassion, and swift action during one of the most difficult times our nation has ever faced. Jai Hind!
